How cool is this?! But wait what kind of trees are those? I was expecting maple syrup to be in those jugs, but it sure doesn’t look like it! I know nothing about tree-tapping. But I sure enjoyed this anyway! Such great pictures!!
Thanks Emily!
They’re maple trees (albeit swamp maples not sugar maples). The trees produce sap which we boil down to make the syrup. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup!
OMG you just brought up such nice memories- we used to tap our trees and neighbors trees to make maple syrup every winter. Those milk jugs look very familiar. Thanks for sharing!
This was our first year and we’ve enjoyed it so much-and learned a bit too. I couldn’t believe how much a traditional kit cost so milk jugs it was. I have a new appreciation for all the jugs of syrup at the store- so much sap!!

That looks like maple sap, which you then have to boil down a LOT to make maple syrup.
Right you are!
Thanks Emily!

Whoa!! That’s crazy! No wonder maple syrup is so expensive. :-O How cool that you get to make it yourself!
I know!! It’s so precious- I want to use *just* our syrup but at the same time- then it will be all gone!
